Simple Fundraising Ideas and Third Party Fundraising Guidelines

Ask Your Friends or Colleagues to Sacrifice and Save

Ask people to take the money they would spend on going out for lunch or on that afternoon latte and put it towards your Habitat Denton County drive.

Recycle Aluminum Cans for Cash

Collect empty cans from your workplace, apartment building, dorm, or block and take them to a local recycling center. Donate the cash to Habitat Denton County. Contact Habitat's Office Coordinator for more information.

Rake leaves, mow grass or plant flowers to benefit Habitat

Offer your landscaping services to members of the community for a donation to Habitat

Decorate Easter baskets or paint eggs

Offer your holiday decorating services for a suggested donation amount to Habitat

Hold a benefit concert

Recruit local bands to play in a concert or a battle of the bands event. Acquire event sponsorship, prizes for winners, and sell tickets to this fun event.

Hold a charity traditional golf or disc golf tournament

Organize a tournament to benefit Habitat. Funds can be raised through registration fees, and event sponsorship such as businesses sponsoring specific holes.

Organize a run or walk

You could organize a 5K fun run and walk where participants pay a registration fee or have a run/walk where participants get pledges per lap/mile/kilometer.

Hold an art show

Recruit local artists to donate a piece of their work to donate to a collective art show. Sell the art at a showing and donate the proceeds to Habitat. Or ask a local artist who is already holding a show to donate a percentage of the proceeds to Habitat.

Organize a scavenger hunt

Hold a scavenger hunt around town/county at local businesses, churches or homes. Participants would pay a registration fee per person or per team. Event sponsors could also be obtained. The Habitat affiliate has had this type of fundraiser in the past it was a lot of fun and we have samples of forms and brochures you could use. Please contact Habitat's Office Coordinator.

Have a dinner and silent auction

Dinner and silent auction can be a fun way to raise money. You will need to contact vendors to try to acquire donated food, or gain event sponsorship to pay for the dinner. A committee will be needed to get items donated for the silent auction. It is fun to have a band or music at the event and even some sort of

game or contest. The Habitat affiliate can help you with the program including a video, slide show, and a family or volunteer to speak.

Host a House Party

Having a holiday or birthday party? Print or use electronic invitations and ask friends to bring a donation for Habitat of Denton County. Suggest an amount or let people play it by ear!

Have a dance contest

You could hold a dance contest were people vote for their favorite dance couple by putting money in their jar.

Hold a three on three basketball tournament

3 o3 basketball tournaments are fun ways to raise money, especially for youth. Money is raise through registration fees and event sponsorships.

Have a seasonal festival (pumpkin patch, Christmas light show, spring flower sale, etc...)

This idea is limitless. You could hold any variety of seasonal events to invite the entire community to. Money can be raised through admission, the sale of merchandise, concession; games etc... use your imagination.

Raffle off an item

You could make a variety of items to raffle or get something donated like some sort of electronics, trip or tickets to a popular event to raffle.

Build playhouses, doghouses, or birdhouses to sell, auction or raffle

You could build playhouses, doghouses, birdhouses, dollhouses etc... to sell, auction, or raffle. They are fun to make and youth can get involved with the activity.

Have a garage/yard sale

Have a yard sale at the Habitat ReStore or at your home, church or business to benefit Habitat.

Run the concessions at a major sporting event

Many professional sport clubs such as the Stars, Cowboys, Mavericks, FC Dallas, and Ranger will let groups work the concessions at certain games to benefit a non-profit of their choice. You would have to contact those sports clubs for details.

Be a carhop for the day

Contact the local Sonic Drive-In and ask for your group to work as carhops for a day or certain period of time to raise money for Habitat through tips.

Hold a movie marathon

You could show themed movies from a certain era, with specific actors, from a certain genre, holiday movies, etc... You may not be able to charge admission but you could accept a suggested admission donation, and sell concessions.

Hold a 24 hour dance marathon

You could have attendees dress in costumes or outfits from certain dance movies etc. The participants can pay a registration fee, get a number and the last dances left win a prize or trophy. Concessions could be sold to participants and those watching the dancers.
